Get ready to step into the timeless holiday tale like never before! This year the Harwich Chamber of Commerce invites you to embark on a magical journey as Harwich Center is transformed into the Victorian world of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. The historic village invites attendees of the annual holiday stroll to watch the heartwarming story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his transformative interactive Christmas Eve unfold before their eyes on the streets of the village. This immersive and innovative production surrounds stroll goers with the sights and sounds of a Victorian-era village with a Cape Cod twist.
Directed and designed by long time theater veteran Tristan DiVincenzo, the experience is set to take place on December 2nd and 3rd at various real-world locations in Harwich Center. This event is FREE and open to the public; and it promises to be the highlight of not only this year’s holiday stroll, but the entire holiday season.
Guests will experience a Dickens of a Christmas as they step onto Victorian streets, beautifully envisioned and recreated to transport you back in time to encounter familiar faces like Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. These iconic characters engage with visitors as they guide the story, making everyone a part of this timeless narrative. The event will also feature seasonal treats, warm beverages, and live music to add to the festive atmosphere.
The event will also feature a separately ticketed “Fezziwig’s Ball” on December 2nd. The Fezziwig Ball is a lively dance event that pays tribute to Mr. Fezziwig, a prominent character from the tale and features spirited dancing, period costumes, and a festive atmosphere. The ball will offer some dance instruction for those wishing to participate in the more traditional dances, with an open dance floor later in the evening. Folks are encouraged to come in costume if they wish, or to come as they are. Tickets can be purchased for the ball by visiting www.harwichcc.com or by calling the Harwich Chamber of Commerce at 508-430-1165.
This event is the brainchild of Producer Chris Schultz of New Latitude Event Solutions and Cyndi Williams, the Executive Director of the Harwich Chamber of Commerce. Williams was seeking a way to “Dickens-up” the annual Christmas in Harwich Weekend based on recommendations of some of the folks in town and approached New Latitude to help with the concept. Schultz, who also produces the Cape Cod Pirate Festival, has had a rough concept for something like this for some time, and with generous support of space and resources from the Cape Cod Theatre Company/Harwich Junior Theatre have been able to bring this concept to life.
For more information about this production, or if you wish to be a part of the event, please contact Chris Schultz at New Latitude Event Solutions or Cyndi Williams at the Harwich Chamber of Commerce. This production promises to be a must-see event for families, friends, and individuals looking to create lasting memories this holiday season.
