Motivated by his experience as a caregiver to a medical cannabis patient, he fought tirelessly for the next eight-and-a-half years with state and local authorities to bring cannabis to the Vineyard, starting with the construction of the first cultivation, manufacturing, and testing laboratory on the Island, and ending — or so he thought — with the opening of both medical and adult-use dispensaries.

But in the summer 2024, the fight was on again: The cultivation facility closed. Cannabis was no longer being grown on the Island. And up to that point, the clash between state law and federal law not only on the legality of cannabis itself but also its transportation over the water was thought to prevent products from being transported between the mainland and the Vineyard. This meant the residents of the Island, including almost 250 medical-use patients, were on the brink of losing access.

But after a few tense months, Geoff won the legal battle to access products from the mainland, and Island Time — now the only dispensary on Martha’s Vineyard — offers a great variety of quality products not only from local cultivators and manufacturers, but also national favorites cultivated and manufactured under Massachusetts regulations and standards.
