Find Treasures of All Sorts in the Art of Cape Cod, Nantucket, and the Island of Martha’s Vineyard

Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket together bring inspiration to artists worldwide. A myriad of Cape Cod art galleries pay tribute to those who have called Cape Cod and these enchanted islands home and whose works have been influenced by marshes, rivers, creeks, cranberry bogs, dunes, harbors, beaches, and communities. From classic paintings to avant-garde sculpture and local styles, the Cape Cod art scene offers something for everyone and something new to discover every day.
In the Upper Cape region, art galleries in Bourne, Sandwich and Falmouth showcase the works of local artists. In Sandwich, McDermott Glass offers vases, stemware and ocean-themed sculptures, Hilltop Gallery features wood carvings, Susan Davies Gallery specializes in art tiles, and Cape Cod Watercolors has paintings and prints. In Bourne, Cataumet Arts Center hosts photography, painting, and textile exhibits. In Falmouth, The Gallery on Main features paintings, photography, and baskets by well-known Cape Cod artists, the Gallery on Jarves has sculptures and mixed media collages, and Falmouth Art Center has three galleries plus classes on sculpture, painting, weaving and more.
The Mid Cape region is home to an abundance of art galleries. In Cotuit, Chapman Art Galleries has paintings and glasswork from local artists. In Mashpee, the Cape Cod Art Bar offers hands-on activities and shares guests’ creations. Barnstable has more than a dozen galleries, with photography at Harden Studios, giclee prints at Kennedy Gallery, drawings at Cahoon Museum of American Art, nautical-themed paintings at Schulz Gallery, impressionist paintings at S-Barber Studio, contemporary creations at Toa Water Art, craftworks at Creative Hands, and sculptures at Osterville Art. In Yarmouth, the Cultural Center of Cape Cod includes Fresh Paint Gallery, where local artists constantly add works to the collection. In Dennis, The Cape Cod Museum of Art has seven galleries and a sculpture garden. In Harwich, you’ll find fine art at Bradford Trust and contemporary works at The Guild of Harwich Artists and Cross Rip Gallery.
Chatham to Provincetown: Paintings, Photography and Sculptures
From Chatham to Provincetown, the Lower and Outer Cape are no exception. Galleries throughout the region feature paintings, photography and sculpture by local artists. In Chatham, Struna Galleries showcases copper plate engravings, Artful Hand offers nautical-themed décor, and Local Color highlights sculpture. Galleries like Provincetown Art Association, Cortile Gallery, Packard Gallery and Alden Gallery feature Cape Cod artists. Kobalt, The Schoolhouse, and Gaa Gallery bring art in from around the world. Just about every style of art is represented in Provincetown.
Martha’s Vineyard Vibrant Art Scene
Martha’s Vineyard has an equally vibrant art scene. In Vineyard Haven, Kennedy Studio, Periwinkle and Night Heron feature artworks and crafts from local artists. In Oak Bluffs, Alison Shaw presents local photography, Andrew Gordon Moore offers nautical-themed paintings, and Knowhere Art’s paintings encourage passion and purpose. In West Tisbury, The Granary and Field Gallery present art in rustic spaces, while Martha’s Vineyard Glassworks offers glass sculptures and décor. In Edgartown, The Edgartown Art Gallery and Martha’s Vineyard Art Association showcase artists around the world, while Fisher Gallery offers local artists’ paintings and photography. Once In a Blue Moon, North Water Gallery and Nikki Sedacca Gallery offer paintings, glasswork, jewelry, and vintage items. In Chilmark, Kara Taylor shares paintings and mixed media creations, Martha’s Vineyard Copperworks has local copper art and weathervanes, and Chilmark Gallery offers local glassware, paintings, pottery, and décor.
Nantucket Art Scene
Nantucket has a typically Nantucket art scene. East End, located in an iconic setting on a picturesque Nantucket wharf, specializes in paintings from local artists. Julie Tremblay Gallery showcases photography capturing Cape Cod’s scenic beauty and intriguing people. Nantucket Lightship Basket Museum is a tribute to the longstanding history of basket making on Nantucket, with a vast collection of light house baskets. Pete’s Fresh Fish Prints uses a version of the Japanese art of Gyotaku to create remarkable art using fresh fish. Other Nantucket galleries seek to bring the works of renowned artists to Nantucket or showcase the paintings, photography, sculptures, jewelry and crafts of local artists.
