Seaside Le Mans is back this year to raise money for local organizations and to put on a great time for all! After another successful year in 2021, raising over $700,000, this year’s event takes place on September 10th from 12pm – 4 pm.The event, now in its 21st year, features European style formula one race karts doing laps on a ¼ mile track.
The four-hour endurance race takes place at the Mashpee Commons with amateur drivers racing for great local organizations. Known as “The Race for the Cape Cod Community” the race is lots of fun for the whole family, benefiting the community in a variety of ways.
History of Seaside Le Mans
The Seaside Le Mans originated from a corporate team building activity undertaken by The Davenport Companies. The group had so much fun racing around the track they came up with the idea to bring the races to the Cape to raise money for good causes.
The Davenport Companies of South Yarmouth cover the cost of operating the event, as well as taking on the responsibility of promoting it. From there local businesses sponsor the teams of drivers, which are generally made up of employees or other associates of the businesses. The Seaside Le Mans is a fund of the Cape Cod Foundation.
Since its founding, the event has raised over $7 million in matching funds and sponsorships. 100% of the funds raised are given to community non-profits. Beneficiaries of the 2022 race are The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, Cape Cod Children’s Museum, Calmer Choice, Cape Cod Healthcare, and Cape & Islands Veterans Outreach Center.
The event is great for families; It’s free to attend, and includes music, food, and a family fun zone from noon to four at the Mashpee Commons. There is plenty of viewing space in the Commons and a pedestrian bridge over the track. Make a day of it and spend some time strolling through the Commons and enjoying the many shops and restaurants there.
The event is an all-around good time, and epitomizes the generosity, strength, and spirit of the Cape Cod community. So, start your engines and head on over to the Mashpee Commons for the Seaside LeMans!
